The new S-Series from SVS, not a detail missed and a wholly new member to the family!

Precisely as when the PB10-NSD after 5 years of hard work got its replacement last year, it is a classic that now is to be replaced.
 

The S-Series has just as the PB10-NSD, been renowned as the leader in its class. No place else could you get a better sound and build quality for your money. The S-Series has since it was introduced been known for its ability to reproduce loud sound levels, and do so without breaking up or become fatiguing. When SVS now introduces the new S-Series, it is not out of necessity, but because they can make something even better. The start of the new S-Series was introduced already last year in the shape of the new STS-01, and now the rest of the series is set to follow.
 

At first glance, the new S-Series may seem remarkably like the previous one, but a closer inspection will reveal that it is easier to explain what isn’t, than what is new. 

All parts new or improved

The S-Series was elected surround set of the year in 2007 with the remark "...manages to surpass the competition on both price and performance ", and improving on this feat was no easy task. Therefore it was necessary for SVS to employ all their diligence when redesigning the S-Series. Every part of the S-Series got inspected, and either improved or replaced.
 

The tweeter and bass driver was replaced with the new BlackSilk™ and SoftCap™ drivers, first introduced in the STS-01 last year. Both come with lower distortion, even higher power handling and a smoother response. To improve the imaging and response from the tweeter further, it was moved up and outwards on the front baffle. As a bonus benefit of this, you can now choose between a wider soundstage, or with close proximity to side walls, minimizing reflections by pointing the tweeters in or outwards.
 

When SVS already were tinkering with the cabinet, they used the opportunity to also stiffen it up further. The result is an enclosure as stiff and rigid as it gets, and where the outgoing S-Series was at the top of its class, the new is in a class of its own!

New Hi-Fi crossover – made by Phil Bamberg

The crossover got a new design from the ground up from the same person who designed the crossover in the successful M-Series, Phil Bamberg. Using more and better components, but a reduced amount of components in-series. The result is among other enhanced transparency, a richer tonal balance and improved phase response leading to better micro-dynamics.
 

Not even the front grille was left alone, but replaced with a stylish, modern looking metal grille. This grille not only improves the looks of the speaker, it leads to improved off-axis and grille-on / grille-off response.

A wholly new member:SSS-01

Together with the new S-Series comes yet a new member to the family, sporting the catchy name SSS-01 (Small Surround Speaker).

The new SSS-01 is a bi-pole using twin woofers and tweeters in each speaker. This configuration helps to spread the sound, creating a larger and more enveloping sound stage and surround experience. Also the many users of the S-Series that sits close to a back wall, and therefore have few options to optimally place the surround speakers will enjoy the SSS-01. The bi-pole configuration means that you can get the full surround sensation even with close proximity placements of the surround speakers.

The SSS-01 continues and expands the S-Series legacy with great sound for a small price.

 

Current S-Series v2  with fabric grill – Free upgrades

The first batch of the new S-Series comes equipped with the classic fabric grill. When the new metal grill comes later this year, we offer a FREE upgrade to the metalgrill at NO charge when it arrive our warehouse, and you can even keep the fabric grill!

Prices and delivery

With this many improvements, it would be natural to see a price hike, but the price stays the same for now. Even tough the margins are as slim as ever, we have managed to shave of 5% as an introductory discount, valid until May 25^th.

Summary

The sum of all those improvements you will hear as a richer, more detailed and even more coherent sound that stays intact at even higher levels. When launched, the S-Series was a huge surprise to many, and was celebrated as the Surround Set of the Year 2007 with the remark"...manages to surpass the competition on both price and performance ", . The new S-Series offers an even better sound quality and this without any price hike. The competition has every reason to be nervous indeed!

 

In a stereo setup, or in a 5.1 system together with one of SVS’ celebrated subwoofers, for example the new PB10-NSD that in its first review was heralded as "The New Budget King", or one of the other high performing NSD subwoofers. The result is a system that without hesitation can reproduce all the dynamics, depth and resolution found on your CD or Blu-ray discs.
