New SVS SB-Series Subwoofers

3 years have passed since SVS launched their first compact subwoofer, the SB12-Plus. Hailed as the reference and the winner of several tests on both the American and the European continent, it still today delivers world class bass in many thousand homes. Even though it still is at the top of its class, SVS have used the three years that have passed to design and build something special, nothing less than four new SB models.

Starting with the new powerhouse SB12-NSD costing €649 up to the sophisticated sledgehammer SB13-Plus clocking in at aprox €1650 (prices incl. VAT).

 

New amplifiers – Sledge DSP™

Coming in both SB models are the all new SVS Sledge™ amplifiers.  They not only belt out more powerful watts than their predecessors, they are also smarter, more efficient and maybe the most well thought out subwoofer-amplifiers on the market today.

DSP as a technology is nothing new, but how SVS have chosen to exploit this technology is. These new SVS subwoofers comes sporting features that will make many think “Why did no one think of this before?”. SVS is no longer content setting the standard for performance, but is now pulling ahead also in the field of functionality.
 

New Features
 

Starting with a new 2nd order roll-off to ensure the highest level of musicality and bass as deep as your room can support. To make sure that none of the problems normally associated with this solution gets a chance to spoil the joy, SVS implemented all new dynamic limiters. These limiters are so transparent, that not only will you never hear any unwanted noise or distortion, you will neither be able to detect that the limiters are at work.

In no particular order, here are some of the new features of wich you will find some or all in the different SB models: Adjustable line-out crossover frequency, crossover frequencies down to 30Hz, adjustable crossover slopes, adjustable delay on line-out, selectable sensitivity on line-in for use with Pro-Gear. These are all functions that will make a world of difference for those longing to use a subwoofer in a stereo setup.

Neither has SVS forgotten the feature that has been standard since day one, the continuously variable phase.  Even 10 years after SVS’ first subwoofer, this is still a not function found in all subwoofers. For all we know, 10 years into the future this combined with all the new features may still be an SVS exclusive.

The power output from the two different Sledge™ amplifiers is 400 punchy watts in the SB12-NSD and 1000 watts for the SB13-Plus. All of the new Sledge™ amplifiers come with “green” power supplies, making them eco and power bill friendly subwoofers.
 

New user interface – Intelligent Feature Controller™

The SB13-Plus come equipped with an all new interface, the Intelligent Feature Controller™. This is a one-button solution where you intuitively can control all the advanced functions these subwoofers come loaded with. Both the display and the button are not to disturb the elegant design of the subwoofer, placed on the back.

The SB12-NSD come equipped with the classic user interface. This time around though, it is behind the scenes all digital, controlled by the new and precise DSP.
 

New drivers

With the new Sledge™ amplifiers in place, both new drivers have all the power they need to with full control extend to the very limit of their performance, but with the limiters to ensure that they never venture beyond. 

Even the SB12-NSD comes equipped with a driver, able to give you a taste of what deep bass feels like. The mighty SB13-Plus will be able to pressurize even large rooms. Still, we have to be honest and tell you that for the ultimate deep bass experience, our PB and PC subwoofers still rule all compact subs, including our own.

 

New finishes

The new SB subwoofers come sporting a new finish or two. The NSD series will now in addition to the sturdy Charcoal Black, also come in Piano Gloss Black. The Plus that already have a wide selection of finishes will get two new in real wood; Black Ash and Cherry. One thing all the new SB subwoofers have in common is the signature metal grill. Just as solid, elegant and noise free as always.
